From May 09-11, 2016 CIRTEN will organise at the School of Engineering of the University of Pisa the 2nd ESNII+ Summer School “The challenges of the future Gen IV Reactors: safety issues in support to the design and operation” in the framework of the FP7 ESNII project.
The Gen IV systems were selected on the basis of being clean, safe and cost-effective means of meeting increased energy demands on a sustainable basis, while being resistant to proliferation.
During 2nd ESNII plus Summer School, participants will be trained and will gain insight into the state-of-the-art of research focused at the development of fast neutron reactors. Technological aspects essential for a safe design and operation of nuclear systems for their entire lifetime will be presented and discussed.
The school will offer an occasion to discuss and share ideas among the young generation involved in the development of fast neutron reactors. It will be mainly dedicated to PhD students, Post-doc scientists and professionals with a particular interest on the safety of next generation reactors.
Lectures will be given by experts coming from renowned European Universities, Research Centre and other international Institutions or Organizations. They will cover the most advanced Gen IV systems and deal with the mechanical, thermal hydraulic neutronic and materials issues and challenges in instrumentation and design. Moreover the participants will have the opportunity to discuss with the experts on the best practices and technology selection in interactive sessions.
Throughout the course, participants will have the opportunity to brainstorm on best practices and selections of technologies for Gen IV cooled nuclear systems in interactive sessions with the experts.
Participants are invited to send in an abstract for a poster presentation on their research project.
The summer school is aimed at PhD students, post-docs and professionals with a particular interest in the domain of the safety of Gen IV systems.
